Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Amadin Enabulele, has expressed confidence that Edo Queens can still win the Nigeria Women Football League Super Six title despite suffering a defeat in their opening match.
The team began its campaign with a narrow 1-0 loss to Nasarawa Amazons, a result that placed immediate pressure on the defending champions as they pursue another league title.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Enabulele encouraged the players to remain focused and not allow the setback to affect their confidence.
He said he had spoken with members of the team and urged them to quickly move on from the defeat and concentrate on their remaining fixtures.
According to him, the loss was disappointing because it was not the result the club expected, but he maintained that the competition remains open with four matches still left to play.
Edo Queens were scheduled to face FC Robo in their next game at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, with both teams searching for their first points of the tournament.
Enabulele emphasised that the squad possesses the quality, experience, and determination needed to recover from the early setback and challenge for the title.
He noted that success in the remaining fixtures could significantly improve the team’s standing and revive its championship aspirations.
The NWFL Super Six is regarded as the most competitive stage of the women’s league season, bringing together the country’s top-performing clubs to determine the overall champion.
Football stakeholders continue to monitor Edo Queens’ campaign closely, with many expecting the team to respond strongly in subsequent matches.
