The Association of Resident Doctors at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, has appealed to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to immediately disburse the Medical Residency Training Fund and settle outstanding minimum wage arrears for healthcare workers.
In an open letter on Monday signed by ARD President Dr Mustapha Adedapo and General Secretary Dr John Stephen, the doctors commended the governor’s investments in healthcare infrastructure but highlighted welfare challenges affecting service delivery. They noted that Oyo State is the only one in the South-West yet to release the residency training fund since the 2017 Act. This has led to financial strain, attrition and manpower shortages in critical departments such as Anaesthesia and Chemical Pathology. The association also decried non-payment of minimum wage arrears amid rising inflation, warning that continued delays could accelerate brain drain and undermine the state’s healthcare goals.
The doctors reaffirmed their commitment to quality service and urged prompt government intervention. This appeal highlights the tension between infrastructure development and human capital welfare in the health sector. Timely disbursement of these funds is critical to retaining skilled medical personnel and maintaining service quality at the teaching hospital, which serves a large population in Oyo and neighbouring states.
