Operatives of the Bauchi State Police Command have arrested three suspects in connection with the armed robbery and murder of a victim in Gwaram Town, Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. The arrests followed a report lodged at the Alkaleri Divisional Police Headquarters on March 7, 2026. One of the suspects, Muhammad Umar, popularly known as “Jijji”, aged 25, was apprehended on June 19, 2026, while in possession of the deceased victim’s motorcycle. During interrogation, Umar allegedly confessed to the crime and identified two accomplices. The other suspects, Usman M. Gidado, 45, and Danladi Yakubu, alias “Pagaj”, 35, were arrested in a swift follow-up operation in Gwaram Town. The motorcycle belonging to the deceased was recovered as an exhibit.
All three suspects and the recovered exhibit have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation. They will be charged to court upon completion of investigations. Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their diligence and professionalism. He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to fighting violent crime and ensuring justice for victims.
The incident highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to tackle armed robbery and related crimes in the North-East region, where such attacks have continued to threaten lives and property. The swift arrest demonstrates improved intelligence gathering and rapid response by the Bauchi State Police Command. Residents have welcomed the development, though many continue to call for sustained patrols and community engagement to prevent recurrence of such violent crimes. The case also underscores the need for enhanced security measures in rural areas of the state, where criminals often exploit weak surveillance and poor infrastructure.
This success adds to recent gains by the command in curbing criminal activities. Police authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements promptly. As investigations continue, authorities are expected to unravel possible links to larger criminal networks operating in the area. The timely arrest and recovery of the stolen motorcycle provide some relief to the victim’s family and serve as a deterrent to would-be criminals in the region.
