INEC, Security Agencies Adjudge Kano By-Election Peaceful and Hitch-Free

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies have described the Kano State by-election as largely peaceful and hitch-free.

Officials said voting was conducted smoothly across most polling units with minimal incidents of violence or disruption. INEC officials commended the cooperation of political parties and voters, while security agencies reported adequate deployment that helped maintain order. Results from the by-election are expected to be announced shortly as collation continues.

The peaceful conduct of the poll has been welcomed by stakeholders as a positive development for democratic processes in the state. The election, which was held to fill vacant seats, tested the preparedness of electoral bodies and security forces in one of Nigeria’s most politically volatile states. Observers noted high voter turnout in some areas and efficient deployment of materials.

This successful exercise could boost confidence in INEC’s ability to conduct credible polls ahead of larger elections. However, some opposition parties have raised minor concerns that are being addressed. Overall, the peaceful atmosphere marks a significant improvement in Kano’s electoral history.
