Electricity supply has been restored to Lagos and several parts of the South-West following a temporary grid disturbance that disrupted power supply on Thursday, according to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
The company disclosed in a statement that the disturbance occurred at about 10:45 a.m., resulting in outages across parts of its transmission network. Engineers were immediately deployed to identify the fault and restore stability to the national grid.
TCN explained that its rapid response team successfully isolated the problem and carried out the necessary corrective measures to restore electricity to affected areas within a short period.
The company apologised to consumers for the inconvenience caused by the interruption and assured Nigerians that efforts are ongoing to strengthen grid reliability and improve electricity transmission nationwide.
Although supply has largely been restored, TCN noted that some locations may continue to experience intermittent outages as engineers complete the process of full system normalisation.
The latest disruption comes as the power sector continues to battle challenges related to ageing infrastructure, transmission constraints and increasing demand for electricity. Stakeholders have repeatedly called for sustained investment in power infrastructure to improve reliability and reduce system disturbances.
Electricity consumers across Lagos welcomed the restoration but expressed concerns about the recurring nature of grid disruptions. Businesses and households affected by the outage reported temporary disruptions to their activities during the period of power loss.
TCN reassured consumers that rehabilitation and upgrade projects are being implemented across critical transmission facilities to improve operational efficiency and ensure more stable electricity supply in the future.
The company urged members of the public to remain patient and continue supporting ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s power infrastructure and improving service delivery.
