Sa’adu Zungur University, Bauchi, has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence 12 new undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the 2026/2027 academic session.
The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Auwal Hassan, who said the decision followed a comprehensive resource assessment conducted by the commission.
According to the statement, the NUC evaluated the institution’s academic staff strength, infrastructure, library resources, laboratories and other facilities before granting approval for the programmes.
The newly approved undergraduate programmes include B.A. (Ed.) Arabic, B.A. (Ed.) Hausa, B.A. (Ed.) Islamic Studies, B.A. Sharia, B.Sc. Social Work, B.Sc. (Ed.) Agricultural Science, B.Sc. (Ed.) Human Kinetics and B.Sc. (Ed.) Health Education.
The approved postgraduate programmes are M.Ed. Educational Management, Doctor of Business Administration, LL.M. and Ph.D. Law, as well as Postgraduate Diploma, M.Sc. and Ph.D. Sociology.
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Fatimah Tahir, described the approval as a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence, institutional growth and compliance with NUC standards.
She said the introduction of the programmes aligns with the institution’s vision of expanding access to quality higher education, promoting research and innovation, and producing graduates capable of addressing contemporary societal challenges.
Tahir expressed appreciation to the NUC for its confidence in the university’s capacity to deliver the programmes and pledged that the institution would maintain the standards that earned the approvals.
She also commended Bauchi State Governor and Visitor to the university, Bala Mohammed, for his continued support through investments in infrastructure and academic development.
The vice-chancellor further praised the university’s Governing Council, Senate, management, academic and non-academic staff for their contributions to the successful outcome of the resource assessment exercise.
She assured prospective students and stakeholders that the university would provide the necessary human and material resources required for the effective implementation of the programmes in line with NUC quality assurance guidelines.
According to her, the approvals further strengthen Sa’adu Zungur University’s position as an emerging public institution committed to academic excellence, research, innovation and community service.
