Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified its Emergency Deep Clean Lagos initiative with a major sanitation exercise along the Apapa–Ajegunle corridor aimed at improving environmental cleanliness and public health across the state.
The agency disclosed in a statement obtained from its X page on Wednesday that the operation was carried out on July 20 within the Central V operational region. The exercise commenced at about 6:00 a.m. and lasted for approximately three hours.
Areas covered during the clean-up exercise included Marine Beach, NAFDAC, Mobile, Agbo-Malu, Arakan Barracks and Ashanti Barracks. According to LAWMA, the operation focused on evacuating accumulated waste, clearing environmental black spots and restoring cleanliness to strategic locations along the busy corridor.
The authority explained that the exercise forms part of its ongoing Emergency Deep Clean Lagos campaign, which is designed to strengthen environmental sanitation, promote public health and ensure cleaner road networks across the state.
To improve efficiency and sustain cleaner surroundings, LAWMA said it had deployed additional support trucks to both inward and outward routes along the corridor to accelerate waste evacuation and prevent the re-emergence of refuse dumps.
The agency urged residents and business owners to support government efforts by disposing of waste properly through their designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
“A cleaner Lagos is a shared responsibility. While LAWMA continues to work tirelessly to clear waste black spots across the state, residents and businesses are encouraged to patronise their assigned PSP operators for proper waste collection, refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal, and play their part in keeping Lagos clean,” the statement read.
The renewed sanitation drive reflects the state government’s commitment to maintaining a cleaner environment and addressing waste management challenges in densely populated communities and commercial corridors.
