Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Segun Aina, has officially assumed office as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), pledging to strengthen examination integrity and sustain reforms in Nigeria’s tertiary admission system.
Aina succeeds Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, whose second and final five-year tenure as Registrar ended on July 31, 2026, after overseeing significant reforms that improved transparency, efficiency and accountability within the examination body.
His appointment by President Bola Tinubu is widely seen as a continuation of efforts to modernise JAMB through technology-driven solutions and institutional reforms.
Speaking shortly after assuming office, Aina described the appointment as a call to national service and promised to uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness and professionalism in the discharge of his duties.
The new Registrar declared a zero-tolerance stance against examination malpractice and warned operators of compromised Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres, candidates and other individuals involved in examination fraud to desist from such activities.
According to him, JAMB will continue to leverage technology, investigations and legal mechanisms to identify and prosecute offenders.
“I assure Mr. President, and indeed everyone in Nigeria, that I shall discharge this responsibility with integrity, fairness, diligence and an unwavering commitment to the public good,” Aina said.
“To those who organise examination malpractice and those who compromise CBT centres, hear me clearly. Your business is with the wrong institution. JAMB will continue to deploy every lawful, technological, administrative and investigative measure available to detect, deter and prosecute examination malpractice.”
Aina brings decades of experience in digital systems, engineering and examination management to the role. He previously worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service and has since served as a consultant to major examination bodies, including the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB).
His contributions to examination integrity, digital transformation and systems optimisation have earned him recognition across Nigeria’s education sector.
Academically, Aina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
He is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).
Stakeholders are optimistic that his expertise will further strengthen JAMB’s efforts to curb examination malpractice and improve the credibility of Nigeria’s tertiary admissions process.
