Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave approved by President Bola Tinubu, marking his first official vacation since taking office on May 29, 2023.
The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha.
According to the statement, Shettima will use the period for study, reflection and intellectual renewal aimed at strengthening his capacity for continued national service.
Nkwocha said the leave would allow the Vice President to assess ongoing government programmes, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for future responsibilities as the administration intensifies implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Since assuming office, Shettima has played a central role in coordinating and supervising strategic government initiatives in areas such as economic development, food security, humanitarian affairs, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.
He also chairs the National Economic Council (NEC), which brings together state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and other key officials to deliberate on economic policies and citizens’ welfare.
The Vice President has equally represented President Tinubu at several international and regional engagements, including the G20 and AU-EU summits, particularly during periods when the President remained in Nigeria to oversee domestic security concerns.
The Office of the Vice President described Shettima as committed to the principles of loyalty, duty and service that have defined his role in the administration.
He is expected to resume official duties on or around August 20, 2026.
