The Kebbi State Government has committed to supporting the families of ten police personnel killed in a terrorist ambush along the Rafin Makuku axis of Sakaba Local Government Area, following a condolence visit from a delegation dispatched by Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu.
Governor Nasir Idris made the pledge Tuesday when he received the IGP’s team at Government House in Birnin Kebbi, led by Deputy Inspector General in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu-Nadada. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the slain officers had been operating in the area to support other security agencies in efforts to curb terrorism when they were attacked.
Idris used the visit to formally extend condolences to the Nigeria Police Force over the loss, framing the state’s response as consistent with established practice. “I want to condole the IGP and the NPF over the sudden death of these officers. It is our tradition in Kebbi to assist the families of fallen officers who died in the line of duty. The Kebbi Government will come to the aid of the families of these officers who paid the supreme price,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Inspector General, DIG Shehu-Nadada delivered condolences to Governor Idris, the people of Kebbi, and the families of the officers killed, while offering assurance that the manhunt for those responsible would remain a priority. “Please rest assured that we are not going to relent in our efforts. All the attackers will be arrested and brought to book,” he said.
The DIG also used the occasion to acknowledge the Kebbi government’s ongoing support for police operations in the state, revealing that a police squadron would soon be established locally, a development suggesting the federal response to the attack extends beyond the immediate investigation to a longer-term strengthening of the state’s security presence.
