Nigerian-born gospel artiste and community vocal mentor, Oyindamola Ogunlaja, says she hopes to be remembered not only for her musical performances but for the positive impact she has made in people’s lives.
Speaking on her long-term aspirations, the United Kingdom-based singer said her greatest desire is to inspire confidence, encourage growth and help others discover their potential through music, mentorship and personal support.
According to Ogunlaja, success should be measured by the lives transformed rather than the number of performances delivered.
“In five years, I want my legacy to be about people, not just performances,” she said, explaining that she hopes those she has encountered will remember her for helping them overcome fears, build confidence and believe in themselves.
Ogunlaja began her musical journey in Nigeria in 2001, developing her skills through choir activities, worship music and live performances. Her early experiences helped shape the distinctive vocal style and stage presence that have become hallmarks of her ministry.
Over the years, she gained recognition within Nigeria’s gospel music community through participation in groups and ministries such as the TREM Zone 4 Choir and Passion & Praise. Her performance portfolio also includes appearances at major worship events attended by thousands of worshippers.
Following her relocation to the United Kingdom in 2021, Ogunlaja continued to expand her influence in the gospel music scene. She currently serves as a member of the RCCG Power Connections Leeds choir and as lead vocalist for Encounter Nights Leeds. She has also participated in major worship programmes organised by faith-based organisations in the UK.
Beyond music, Ogunlaja described herself as a creative who enjoys acting, dancing and writing. She revealed that she writes songs, short stories and film concepts, although much of her written work remains unpublished.
She said embracing different aspects of her creativity has enabled her to grow both personally and professionally, adding that storytelling can be expressed through multiple creative platforms.
Her passion for mentorship is also evident in her work with children and teenagers, where she provides vocal guidance and personal support to more than 100 young people through church-based programmes.
In recognition of her contributions to the creative industry, Ogunlaja received a BEFFTA Star Award in 2025, further highlighting her growing influence within the gospel and entertainment sectors.
