President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with effect from August 27, 2026.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Enitan will succeed Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60 years.
The new Head of Service is currently serving as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education and is regarded as the most senior Permanent Secretary in the civil service. He has spent more than seven years in that capacity, serving in key ministries including the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President.
President Tinubu praised Walson-Jack for her contributions to public service, describing her tenure as one marked by reforms, innovation and impactful leadership.
He expressed appreciation for her years of dedicated service and wished her success in her post-retirement endeavours.
The President also charged Enitan to build on existing reforms and drive greater professionalism, accountability and efficiency within the civil service.
According to Tinubu, the incoming Head of Service is expected to lead a merit-driven and responsive public service capable of supporting the implementation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan and the College of Arts and Science in Ile-Ife before obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Banking from the University of Lagos in 1988. He later earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia, in 2015.
