President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, in a development that has attracted significant political attention across the country.
Governor Adeleke arrived at the State House at about 5:20 p.m. and was driven directly to the President’s office through the forecourt route, where he proceeded into the meeting with the President.
The meeting comes barely a week after Adeleke secured re-election for a second term in office following the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the governor winner after polling 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke won the election by a margin of 66,252 votes and secured victory in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
His re-election was particularly notable because he contested on the platform of the Accord Party after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state adopted his candidacy and directed party structures to support his bid.
Although details of Thursday’s discussions were not immediately made public, political observers believe the meeting could focus on governance issues, federal-state relations, developments in Osun State and the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The engagement is also taking place at a time when political consultations and alignments are intensifying across the country, with many political actors already positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.
President Tinubu has in recent months held consultations with political leaders, governors and other stakeholders as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and national development.
The outcome of the meeting is expected to generate further interest, particularly given the significance of Osun State in the South-West political landscape and the growing attention on preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
