The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that young residents of Nyanya and surrounding communities are selling their kidneys for financial gain.
The command described the publication as false and misleading, stressing that it has neither received nor verified any report relating to the alleged sale of human organs in the area.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command also dismissed claims that an agent based in nearby Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was purchasing kidneys from residents.
“The FCT Police Command wishes to categorically state that it has neither received nor confirmed any report of such nature, and no statement or communication to that effect has emanated from the Command,” Adeh said.
The police urged residents to disregard the publication and avoid sharing unverified information capable of creating fear, panic and unnecessary anxiety among members of the public.
The command further encouraged individuals with credible information regarding human organ trafficking or other criminal activities to promptly report such cases to security agencies for investigation and appropriate action.
Residents were advised to contact the nearest police station or reach the FCT Police Command through its emergency lines whenever they have useful information relating to security concerns.
The clarification comes amid growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media platforms, particularly reports involving security matters, which authorities say can undermine public confidence and distract attention from genuine threats.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting residents of the Federal Capital Territory and urged the public to rely on verified sources for information relating to security issues.
