Support for President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms has received a boost from the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who has urged Nigerians to cooperate with government policies aimed at reducing poverty and improving livelihoods across the country.
The monarch made the call on Tuesday during an empowerment and industrialisation programme organised by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
According to the traditional ruler, the Federal Government’s ongoing economic initiatives are designed to address poverty and create opportunities for millions of Nigerians, particularly small business owners and entrepreneurs. He noted that while the reforms may take time to yield their full benefits, citizens must remain supportive and patient to ensure their success.
Oba Ogunwusi expressed confidence that the administration’s efforts would ultimately improve living standards and stimulate economic growth. He stressed that national development requires collective responsibility, urging Nigerians to fulfil their civic obligations, including the payment of taxes, while also promoting peace and stability within their communities.
“The intention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end poverty in the country will soon be realised through the various programmes and policies put in place by the Federal Government,” the monarch said, adding that public cooperation remains essential for achieving the desired outcomes.
He further commended government efforts targeted at supporting small and medium-scale enterprises, describing entrepreneurs as critical drivers of economic development and job creation. According to him, policies that encourage business growth will contribute significantly to national prosperity.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, disclosed that more than 300,000 Nigerians have benefited from the corporation’s empowerment programmes since its establishment two years ago.
Nwagba said the agency remains committed to expanding access to credit facilities and productive assets for Nigerians, particularly those seeking to establish or grow businesses. He revealed that plans were underway to extend support to more beneficiaries through soft loans, equipment distribution and other empowerment initiatives.
As part of the programme, tricycles and other working tools were distributed to selected beneficiaries in Osun State, a move organisers said would help improve livelihoods and promote self-reliance among recipients.
The event formed part of broader efforts by CREDICORP and its partners to promote economic inclusion and strengthen entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
