The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has graduated 1,626 officers from its Fourth Combined and Upgrading Course 2026, urging participants to uphold professionalism and embrace technology in addressing emerging migration and border security challenges.
The graduation ceremony, held at the Immigration Training School in Kano and supported by training activities at the Digital Bridge Institute, marked one of the largest capacity-building exercises undertaken by the service in recent years.
Speaking at the event, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, represented by Assistant Comptroller-General Samuel Agba, charged the newly trained officers to apply the knowledge acquired during the programme in the discharge of their duties.
She stressed the need for immigration personnel to demonstrate professionalism, integrity and sound judgment while leveraging technology to tackle increasingly sophisticated border management and migration-related threats.
According to the service, the training programme was designed to strengthen officers’ operational capacity and prepare them for modern security challenges associated with migration, transnational crime and border protection.
The Commandant of the training school described the graduating class as the largest intake in the institution’s history, reflecting the service’s growing investment in manpower development and professional excellence.
As part of activities marking the graduation, outstanding participants received merit awards in recognition of exceptional performance during the course. The event also featured the commissioning of an ultra-modern market constructed by members of the graduating class as part of a community development initiative.
The NIS has consistently emphasised training and capacity development as critical components of its reform agenda, particularly as the country seeks to strengthen border security and improve migration management systems.
Observers note that the increasing use of technology in migration control and identity management requires continuous professional development for personnel responsible for safeguarding Nigeria’s borders.
The service expressed confidence that the graduates would contribute meaningfully to national security objectives while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and public service.
