Traditional community leaders under the Lagos State Baales Forum have announced plans to intensify grassroots mobilisation for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The commitment was made during a public engagement organised by the Lagos Division of the forum, where traditional chiefs, community leaders and supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) discussed strategies for the forthcoming elections.
The forum’s convener, Dr Seyi Bamigbade, said the position of traditional leaders within their communities gave them access to grassroots networks that could be used to mobilise eligible voters.
He said the forum would deploy its community network in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid and Hamzat’s campaign for governor of Lagos State.
Bamigbade also disclosed that the mobilisation programme would extend beyond Lagos, with the South-West Baales Forum planning a regional endorsement event for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
According to him, traditional community leaders from across the South-West are expected to gather in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on October 7, 2026, for the ceremony.
He said the planned event was intended to improve coordination among traditional institutions and strengthen grassroots engagement ahead of the elections.
The Lagos forum also expressed support for the Tinubu administration, citing its focus on infrastructure and economic development, as well as what it described as the administration’s respect for traditional institutions.
The Lagos Division similarly reaffirmed its backing for Hamzat, pointing to his administrative experience, loyalty and familiarity with the state’s development blueprint.
The forum’s latest mobilisation effort follows activities it carried out earlier in preparation for the 2027 elections. In August, the group announced the appointment of coordinators across polling units in Lagos as part of its grassroots strategy.
It has also previously organised voter sensitisation initiatives, including its “Operation Show Your PVC” campaign, which was aimed at encouraging eligible residents to participate in elections.
Bamigbade urged residents and community stakeholders to remain involved in the electoral process, while the Lagos Division called for continued support for the APC at both state and federal levels.
The forum has previously endorsed Tinubu for another term in office and declared its support for Hamzat’s governorship ambition in Lagos.
