The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused factional National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) leader, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, and some elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) of allegedly plotting to destabilise motor park operations in the state.
The opposition party made the allegation amid lingering tensions surrounding the control and management of motor parks across Osun State, warning that any attempt to forcefully alter existing arrangements could trigger renewed violence.
In a statement issued by its state chairman, Victor Akande, the party claimed it had received credible reports from stakeholders within various motor parks indicating that plans were underway to install a new leadership structure despite the existence of an incumbent executive.
According to the party, MC Oluomo and an individual identified as Asiri Eniba were allegedly linked to efforts aimed at taking over the parks. Accord claimed that a new leadership certificate was issued to Eniba even though the tenure of the current executive had not expired.
The party argued that such actions could undermine ongoing efforts by the state government to introduce a Park Management System intended to regulate transport activities and maintain order within motor parks.
Accord further alleged that the development could heighten tensions among rival groups and create conditions capable of threatening public peace if not properly addressed by relevant authorities.
Referencing the recent killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade, the party said concerns over a possible resurgence of factional clashes should not be ignored. It warned that any attempt to impose leadership structures through force could worsen existing divisions and increase the risk of confrontation among transport union factions.
The party therefore called on the Presidency and the Inspector-General of Police to closely monitor the situation and take preventive measures to avoid a breakdown of law and order.
Accord also commended the Osun State Commissioner of Police for efforts aimed at maintaining peace and preventing violence despite the tense atmosphere surrounding transport union activities in the state.
In addition, the party urged security agencies to ensure full compliance with the directive issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke ordering all factions of the NURTW to vacate motor parks pending the resolution of disputes.
The allegations come at a time when transport union politics continues to attract attention in several parts of the country, particularly because of its influence on commercial transportation activities and grassroots political mobilisation.
As of the time of the report, there was no response from MC Oluomo or the APC regarding the allegations raised by the Accord Party.
