The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted more than 1.3 million tramadol and opioid pills as well as nearly 6,000kg of cannabis in coordinated operations across several states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The agency said the seizures have a combined street value of more than N3.4 billion, highlighting the scale of recent enforcement operations targeting illicit drug trafficking and distribution networks.
One of the major interceptions involved 1,200 parcels of Canadian Loud weighing 603.75kg at the Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos. The seized consignment was valued at approximately N1.81 billion.
In Delta State, NDLEA operatives also recovered 292kg of skunk from a suspect accused of impersonating a police officer. The operation formed part of the agency’s efforts to disrupt the movement and distribution of illicit drugs across the country.
Another operation in Benin City, Edo State, led to the recovery of Canadian Loud and methamphetamine from an automobile workshop. The discovery further demonstrated the range of locations being used by suspected drug trafficking networks to store or process illicit substances.
The agency also reported the interception of substantial quantities of tramadol and other controlled substances during operations along major highways. The seizures were made during intelligence-led checks targeting drug trafficking routes and transportation networks.
In Ondo State, four suspects were arrested during an operation involving the destruction of a cannabis farm. The agency said the farm contained an estimated 5,000kg of cannabis.
The NDLEA has continued to target both the supply and distribution chains of illicit drugs through interdiction operations, arrests and the destruction of cannabis cultivation sites.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended officers involved in the latest operations for their efforts in disrupting drug trafficking activities.
Marwa urged personnel to sustain intelligence-driven operations and strengthen collaboration aimed at identifying drug trafficking networks and intercepting illicit substances before they reach consumers.
The latest seizures cover multiple states and the Federal Capital Territory, reflecting the agency’s continuing focus on major entry points, highways, urban distribution centres and cultivation areas.
The NDLEA said its operations would continue as part of broader efforts to reduce the availability and circulation of illicit drugs in Nigeria.
