Nigerian Navy Disowns Fake 2026 Recruitment Notice, Warns Against Fraudsters

The Nigerian Navy has cautioned members of the public against a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media, insisting that no official announcement has been made regarding the purported 2026 Batch 39 enlistment exercise.

The warning was issued following the widespread circulation of recruitment information on various online platforms, which the Navy described as false, misleading and unauthorised.

In a statement, the Director of Naval Information, Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, advised prospective applicants and the general public to disregard the notice and avoid engaging with individuals or platforms claiming to conduct recruitment on behalf of the service.

Folorunsho stressed that all information relating to Nigerian Navy recruitment exercises would only be communicated through official channels and not through unofficial social media accounts, private websites or third-party agents.

According to him, the Navy remains committed to maintaining a transparent, fair and credible recruitment process and has not authorised any individual, group or organisation to recruit applicants or collect money on its behalf.

He urged members of the public to verify any recruitment-related information through the Navy’s official website and recruitment portal before taking any action.

The Navy identified its authorised channels for recruitment information as its official website and dedicated recruitment portal, where details on eligibility requirements, application procedures and recruitment timelines are usually published whenever an exercise is approved.

The service also reiterated that recruitment into the Nigerian Navy is completely free and does not require payment of any fee at any stage of the process.

Security agencies have repeatedly warned Nigerians against falling victim to recruitment scams, which often increase whenever government agencies and military institutions are expected to commence enlistment exercises.

Fraudsters typically exploit public interest in military and paramilitary recruitment by creating fake websites, circulating false advertisements and demanding payments from unsuspecting applicants under the guise of processing fees or guaranteed placements.

The Navy therefore encouraged prospective candidates to remain vigilant and report suspicious recruitment advertisements or individuals claiming to facilitate enlistment for a fee.

The service reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and urged Nigerians to rely solely on official communication whenever recruitment exercises are announced.
