Vice-President Kashim Shettima has commissioned 11.2 kilometres of road projects and launched 230 mass transit vehicles in Katsina State as the state government intensifies efforts to improve urban mobility and modernise its transport infrastructure.
The projects were commissioned during Shettima’s one-day official visit to the state, where he unveiled 30 CNG hybrid buses and 200 electric tricycles at the Old Ministry of Works.
The new vehicles are expected to support cleaner and more efficient transportation across Katsina, Daura and Funtua, extending the state’s public transport programme across its three senatorial districts.
The commissioned roads include the 4.8-kilometre dualised Kofar Sauri–Central Mosque Roundabout Road, the 2.4-kilometre Central Police Station Junction–Kofar Kaura Underpass Road and the newly constructed 4-kilometre Filin Polo–Ring Road.
Governor Dikko Radda described the projects as part of his administration’s broader urban renewal programme, which he said is focused on developing an integrated road network rather than isolated projects.
According to Radda, the strategy is intended to improve connectivity, reduce travel times and ease traffic congestion while creating better conditions for economic activity across Katsina metropolis.
“Our development philosophy is to establish an integrated and interconnected road network rather than undertake isolated projects,” the governor said, adding that the same approach was being extended to Daura and Funtua.
The three roads form part of 12 major urban renewal projects being implemented within Katsina metropolis. Radda also disclosed that more than 240 kilometres of urban and rural roads had been covered through ongoing infrastructure interventions across the state.
He said the investments were designed to improve access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities while supporting agriculture, commerce and private-sector investment.
Radda also highlighted previous infrastructure projects, noting that the Central Mosque Roundabout–Water Board Roundabout Road was commissioned in October 2025, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu commissioned the Eastern Bypass Road in May 2025.
On transportation, the governor said the newly launched hybrid buses combine electric, diesel and CNG technologies. The buses are expected to provide residents with more convenient and efficient mobility while complementing the electric tricycles launched alongside them.
The latest projects form part of Katsina State’s wider push to modernise its urban infrastructure and improve transportation links across the state.
