The Nigeria Police Force says its operatives have arrested several suspects, rescued kidnapped victims and recovered firearms and ammunition in operations conducted across the country over the past 24 hours.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement published on the police’s social media handle on Monday, detailing arrests and recoveries linked to murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and other offences.
In Rivers State, police arrested three suspected members of an alleged armed robbery and kidnapping gang identified as Chinemerem Uchiewọ, Michael Ishaka and Gideon Okah.
According to Iniedu, the suspects confessed to involvement in several robberies and kidnappings, including the alleged robbery and murder of Joseph Onyeka in Rumuji community on July 23, 2026.
Police recovered six firearms from the suspects, including two AK-47 rifles, two pump-action rifles, a double-barrel gun and a locally made revolver, alongside 58 rounds of ammunition. One of the AK-47 rifles was allegedly among weapons previously snatched from an injured police inspector.
In Kano State, operatives rescued two farm labourers who had been abducted by suspected kidnappers. A five-year-old girl was also rescued from an alleged abductor in the Federal Capital Territory.
The police also reported several arrests in connection with suspected murder cases.
In the FCT, surveillance personnel responding to a report about an abandoned baby found the body of a baby boy in a nearby bush with severe cut injuries to the neck and abdomen.
Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of the baby’s 27-year-old mother, Precious Yohana. Iniedu said she allegedly confessed to delivering the child unaided before using a razor blade to inflict the injuries. The case is being investigated by the FCT Criminal Investigation Department.
In Kogi State, detectives arrested Olorunada Suzan and Sixirat Moses over the alleged murder of 90-year-old Juliana Joel, also known as Oyohu. The woman was reportedly found dead beneath her bed with her throat slit.
Kano police also arrested 20-year-old Halifa Miko over the alleged killing of his 30-year-old stepmother, Hajara. Police said the woman was stabbed seven times in the stomach with a pointed iron and later died at Dawakin/Tofa General Hospital. The suspected weapon was recovered.
Elsewhere, four suspected armed robbers were arrested in Anambra, while firearms and other exhibits were recovered during operations in Bayelsa, Ekiti, Osun and Anambra states.
Iniedu said investigations into the cases were ongoing under the relevant State Criminal Investigation Departments and the FCT CID.
The Force urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist police operations and efforts to maintain law and order.
