Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will have an easier path to re-election in 2027 than he did during the 2023 presidential election.
Wike made the declaration on Monday while addressing town hall meetings with the Rumuemeand Apara kingdoms in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, where he called on residents to support Tinubu at the polls.
The former Rivers State governor said securing Tinubu’s second term had become a major focus of his activities, describing the President’s re-election as something constantly on his mind.
“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s re-election. When I am eating, I think about the president’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s re-election,” Wike said.
He urged Rivers residents to put political sentiments aside and support Tinubu, arguing that the President had recognised the state through development projects and appointments of Rivers indigenes to strategic positions within his administration.
“Let us forget sentiment and vote for the person who has recognised the people of Rivers State with dividends of democracy and with several appointments,” he said.
Wike maintained that the benefits he attributed to the Tinubu administration should encourage Rivers voters to back the President for another term.
“I know the re-election of Tinubu in 2027 will be easier than that of 2023. We should appreciate Tinubu and ensure he gets a massive number of votes. We can do it,” he added.
The FCT minister also reiterated his commitment to mobilising support for Tinubu in Rivers State, saying the President’s administration had brought developments to the state while giving several indigenes key roles in the Federal Government.
Wike’s comments come as political activities and preparations for the 2027 general election intensify across the country, with parties and political blocs beginning to position themselves ahead of the contest.
His continued support for Tinubu has also placed him in a distinctive political position, given that he remains a prominent figure in Rivers State and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party while backing the incumbent President.
For now, Wike is focusing his political efforts on building support for Tinubu in his home state, urging Rivers residents to reciprocate what he described as the Federal Government’s recognition and development efforts with votes in 2027.
