Ghanaian actress and fashion personality Nana Akua Addo has appealed for restraint after videos allegedly showing her involved in a domestic dispute with her husband, Harold Duodu Norman, went viral on social media.
The actress, whose real name is Rosemond Akua Adobea, has asked media organisations and members of the public to stop sharing the footage, particularly videos involving the couple’s children.
In a statement issued through her lawyers, Nkrabeah & Associates, Nana Akua Addo said the videos were circulated without her knowledge or consent and amounted to an invasion of her privacy and that of her children, who are minors.
“Our attention has been drawn to several harrowing videos circulating on social media, showing our client and her children embroiled in a domestic dispute,” the lawyers said.
They said the matter had already been brought before the appropriate authorities and urged the media not to publish or redistribute the footage.
“We humbly request that all media houses refrain from publishing and sharing the videos, especially the ones showing the abuse of a minor,” the statement added.
One of the widely circulated videos appears to show Nana Akua Addo on a hospital bed with an intravenous drip attached to her arm. She appears to have facial injuries, including a swollen lip and a cut beneath one eye, while bloodstains can also be seen on her clothing and the floor.
Another video appears to capture a tense family confrontation involving the actress, Norman and other family members, with allegations being exchanged in the presence of their children.
Claims have also circulated alleging that Norman assaulted one of the couple’s minor children. However, the circumstances surrounding that allegation have not been independently established, with competing accounts emerging from both sides.
Norman’s lawyers have rejected the suggestion that the viral footage proves he assaulted his wife. They have instead presented a different account of the events and alleged that their client had experienced physical abuse during the couple’s 14-year marriage.
According to his legal representatives, the footage showing Nana Akua Addo with an injured lip dates back to an incident in 2021 rather than a recent episode. They alleged that the actress attempted to attack Norman with a knife and that he tried to protect himself using a dressing mirror, which shattered during the confrontation.
The lawyers claimed glass fragments from the broken mirror caused the injury to Nana Akua Addo’s mouth and that Norman subsequently took her to hospital for treatment.
They further alleged that although the footage was recorded at the time, it only surfaced publicly years later amid ongoing legal proceedings between the couple.
Norman also reportedly released a video shortly before his arrest in which he gave his account of the dispute and responded to the allegations against him.
Nana Akua Addo’s lawyers said the matter was “sub judice” and urged the public to allow the relevant authorities to handle it.
They also expressed gratitude for the intervention of the Ghana Police and said they were confident in the country’s judicial system.
“At the appropriate time our client will address all pertinent issues,” the lawyers said, while asking the public to respect the family’s privacy as they deal with the situation.
The competing accounts have intensified discussions in Ghana over domestic violence, child protection and the dangers of drawing conclusions from sensitive footage circulating online.
With investigations and legal proceedings reportedly ongoing, the circumstances surrounding the videos and the allegations remain to be determined by the appropriate authorities.
