Tinubu Celebrates Dabiri-Erewa, Highlights Her Public Service and Diaspora Advocacy

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on her 63rd birthday, commending her years of work in journalism, public service and advocacy for Nigerians at home and abroad.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the President described Dabiri-Erewa as a devoted public servant and committed member of his political party. He also reflected on her career, which began in broadcasting at the Nigerian Television Authority before she moved into politics and public administration.

Tinubu praised what he described as her commitment to the welfare of disadvantaged people and her efforts to advance social justice for Nigerians living both within the country and overseas.

He also highlighted her work in attracting members of the Nigerian diaspora to contribute to national development, particularly in sectors such as education, healthcare and sports.

“Abike has demonstrated love for the country and humanity over many years by consistently placing the welfare and well-being of the underprivileged at the centre of her work,” the President said.

Tinubu added that he had observed the passion, diligence and foresight she brought to her responsibilities as a journalist, legislator and head of NIDCOM.

Dabiri-Erewa previously served in the House of Representatives, representing Ikorodu Constituency from 2003 to 2015. During her time in the legislature, she chaired the House Committee on Media and Publicity and also headed the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs.

Her legislative work and subsequent appointment to lead NIDCOM have placed her in roles connected to public communication, diaspora engagement and the welfare of Nigerians abroad.

The commission is responsible for engaging Nigerians in the diaspora and promoting their involvement in the country’s development. The President’s statement specifically acknowledged efforts to encourage diaspora expertise and resources to support national progress.

Tinubu also offered prayers for Dabiri-Erewa, asking for God’s blessings, wisdom and good health as she continues her public responsibilities.

The birthday message highlighted the administration’s appreciation of her contributions across journalism, legislative service and diaspora affairs. It also drew attention to the role of Nigerians abroad in areas such as education, healthcare and sports, which the President identified as important to national development.

The statement did not announce any new policy or initiative. Instead, it served as a public recognition of Dabiri-Erewa’s career and her continued leadership of the commission.
