NCDC Rules Out Ebola in Two Suspected Cases Reported in Adamawa

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two individuals suspected of having Ebola Virus Disease in Yola, Adamawa State, tested negative after two rounds of laboratory testing.

The agency said the results ruled out Ebola in the two individuals, adding that there was currently no laboratory-confirmed case in Adamawa State.

NCDC Director-General, Dr Jide Idris, disclosed this in a statement dated October 31, following an investigation conducted in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government through its Ministry of Health and Human Services.

According to Idris, the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre received a report in the early hours of October 30 after two individuals presented with symptoms suggestive of the disease.

The individuals were immediately isolated, while samples were collected for laboratory examination. Public health measures were also initiated as authorities worked to establish the cause of their illnesses.

Idris confirmed that the samples returned negative results after two rounds of testing. He commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and the state health team for their response, adding that the NCDC would continue providing technical support to strengthen disease surveillance and response activities.

The Director-General also clarified that the Ebola case previously confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory remained the only laboratory-confirmed case reported in Nigeria at the time of the statement.

He urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified reports or speculation about the suspected cases, advising the public to rely on official government and public health communication channels for accurate information.

The NCDC further advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.

It also urged individuals to provide healthcare workers with relevant travel and contact histories and avoid self-medication.

The agency said it would continue monitoring the situation alongside the Adamawa State Government and other stakeholders, with further updates to be provided as verified information becomes available.
