2027: Era of Ballot Box Snatching, Results Manipulation Over – INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that the era of ballot box snatching and results manipulation will not be tolerated in the 2027 general elections.

INEC Chairman Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan made this declaration on Wednesday during a meeting with political party leaders in Abuja. Amupitan warned politicians and their agents against any attempt to undermine the electoral process, saying the commission has strengthened its technology and monitoring mechanisms.

He assured Nigerians of free, fair and credible elections and urged political parties to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than violence and rigging. The INEC boss also announced plans for continuous stakeholder engagements and training of election officials to ensure smooth conduct of the polls.

This strong warning comes amid concerns over rising political tensions as the 2027 electioneering season approaches. The commission’s firm stance is expected to send a strong message to political actors and boost public confidence in the electoral process. INEC has been working to improve its technology and processes to reduce opportunities for rigging and manipulation.

The meeting with party leaders is part of ongoing efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process. The commission has urged all stakeholders to play by the rules and avoid actions that could undermine the integrity of the elections. The development is expected to shape the conduct of political parties and candidates as the electioneering season begins.
