FG Dismisses Cyberattack Claims on Education Data Platform as Misleading

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports of a cyberattack on the Nigeria Education Management Information System (NEMIS), describing them as inaccurate and misleading.

In a statement on Tuesday signed by Director of Press and Public Relations Folasade Boriowo, the ministry said the platform remains secure with no breach, data loss, or unauthorised access. The ministry explained that a temporary browser warning noticed by some users resulted from an SSL certificate configuration issue at the hosting level, which was promptly resolved. Officials urged the public and media to verify information through official channels before publication to avoid unnecessary panic.

This clarification is crucial for maintaining trust in digital education infrastructure, especially as Nigeria pushes for greater data-driven planning in the sector. NEMIS plays a vital role in tracking enrolment, infrastructure, and performance metrics nationwide. The swift response helps prevent misinformation that could undermine ongoing reforms in education management and digital transformation.
