Afenifere Applauds IGP, Govs for Tackling Kidnapping Surge

The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has commended the Inspector-General of Police and state governors in the South-West for their efforts in tackling the recent surge in kidnapping.

In a statement on Wednesday, Afenifere praised the increased collaboration between security agencies and community leaders, which has led to the rescue of several victims and arrest of suspects. The group, however, urged sustained vigilance and more investment in intelligence gathering and modern policing equipment.

Afenifere also called for the full implementation of community policing initiatives and stronger support for Amotekun and other regional security networks. The organisation warned that any let-up in the current momentum could reverse the gains made in recent weeks. This commendation comes as stakeholders continue to push for more decisive action against insecurity in the South-West.

The statement reflects growing confidence in the efforts of security agencies in the region. Afenifere’s endorsement is expected to boost morale among operatives and encourage continued collaboration between communities and law enforcement. The group’s call for sustained vigilance underscores the need for long-term strategies to address the root causes of kidnapping and other violent crimes.
