INEC Clears Shehu Sani, Katung, Yero as APC Locks In Kaduna Senatorial Candidates

The APC has wrapped up nominations for its three Kaduna State senatorial candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. Former Senator Shehu Sani, Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, and former Governor Mukhtar Yero have each received Form EC9 from the Independent National Electoral Commission, the statutory document confirming their candidacy.

The forms went out as the party began uploading its full list of Senate and House of Representatives candidates to INEC’s nomination portal, following sign-off from the National Working Committee. The same nomination exercise also settled outstanding candidate disputes in Ondo, Benue, Kwara, and Kogi states.

Shehu Sani’s nomination in Kaduna Central had drawn speculation about a possible last-minute substitution, speculation the Form EC9 presentation now puts to rest. The former senator was reticent when first asked to confirm he had received the document, but later posted a photo to his WhatsApp status of Governor Uba Sani handing it to him, captioned “Officially the confirmed candidate, In Shaa Allah.” Party members are treating the moment as settling, for good, his position as APC’s Senate candidate for the district.

In Kaduna South, Katung’s nomination secures his bid for a second Senate term, this time under the APC banner. His media aide, Midat Joseph, confirmed the development. Katung won his current seat in 2023 running on the PDP platform before crossing over to the APC, a switch he attributed to infrastructure and development work he credited to the Tinubu and Uba Sani administrations in his constituency.

Yero rounds out the ticket, picking up Form EC9 as the party’s candidate for Kaduna North and closing out the state’s Senate lineup.

With all three forms issued, the APC’s documentation for its Kaduna senatorial candidates is done. The trio can now proceed toward the 2027 elections, pending whatever final procedural steps INEC still requires.
