Police Repel Bandits, Nab Housewife Over Attempted Murder in Katsina

Katsina police say they repelled an armed bandit attack in Dandume Local Government Area last weekend, while separately arresting a woman accused of trying to kill her sleeping husband with a knife, two incidents that landed on the same desk within 24 hours of each other.

A distress call on the evening of June 28 warned police that a large group of bandits on motorcycles was moving along the Kadisau-Sheme Road in Dandume. The Divisional Police Officer responded by sending operatives from the Violent Crimes Response Unit alongside members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to intercept them before they could reach any settlements along the route. What followed was a gun battle that ended with the bandits scattering into the bush, outgunned by the responding team’s firepower and tactical positioning. Police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq, who confirmed the incident in a Monday statement, said a manhunt is underway for the suspects who fled the scene. She remains in police custody while the investigation continues, and is expected to be arraigned in court once that process concludes. Police have not disclosed a motive for the alleged attack.

Commissioner of Police Aliyu Fage commended the officers and Community Watch Corps members involved in repelling the bandit attack, describing their response as proof of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
