INEC ASSURES OSUN VOTERS OF TRANSPARENT GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured residents of Osun State that all necessary measures are being put in place to deliver a free, fair and credible governorship election.

The assurance was given by the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, during a press briefing on the commission’s level of preparedness ahead of the poll.

Babalola stated that INEC remains committed to conducting an election that accurately reflects the will of the people while ensuring transparency, inclusiveness and security throughout the process.

She disclosed that the state had over 1.9 million registered voters before the conclusion of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, adding that the commission was intensifying preparations across all local government areas.

According to her, INEC has identified key operational priorities aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process, including the mapping of flashpoints and difficult terrains that could pose logistical challenges on election day.

She explained that the commission was working closely with security agencies and other stakeholders to guarantee a peaceful and orderly election.

Babalola emphasized that preparations extend beyond statutory electoral activities and include extensive planning for voter education, logistics, personnel deployment and election monitoring.

She noted that lessons learned from previous elections are being incorporated into the commission’s strategy to enhance efficiency and public confidence.

The electoral commissioner reassured political parties, observers and voters that INEC remains focused on upholding the integrity of the electoral process.

With preparations gathering momentum, attention is increasingly turning to Osun State as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of what is expected to be a closely watched governorship contest.

Analysts believe the election will serve as another important test of Nigeria’s electoral reforms and democratic institutions.
