Zamfara CP Engages Traditional Rulers In Bungudu Over Security Concerns

The Commissioner of Police for Zamfara State Command, CP A. M. Bello, paid an operational visit to Bela and Gada communities in Bungudu Local Government Area on a mission built around a familiar but often difficult goal, getting traditional authorities and police to work from the same page on security.

Bello was received by the Emir of Bungudu, Sarkin Fulanin Bungudu Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, alongside Alhaji Yakuba Almajiri, Gamjin Bela, the District Heads of Bela and Gada, and other respected stakeholders in the area, a turnout that reflected the weight the Command placed on the visit. Rather than a ceremonial courtesy call, the engagement functioned as a working session, with discussions covering the current security picture in Bungudu, ways to deepen cooperation between police and residents, and practical steps for improving intelligence sharing so that emerging threats can be flagged and addressed before they escalate.

Bello used the opportunity to commend the Emir, the traditional institution and community leaders for the support they have consistently extended to security agencies operating in the area, framing that cooperation as central to whatever progress has been made so far. His central message to residents was one of shared responsibility, arguing that sustainable peace cannot be delivered by police alone but depends on unity, vigilance and active participation from the community itself. He urged residents to remain law-abiding in their conduct and to report suspicious activity to police and other security agencies promptly, rather than waiting until situations escalate beyond easy intervention.

The Emir of Bungudu responded with his own assurances, thanking the Commissioner for making the trip and acknowledging what he described as the Command’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace across the local government area. He pledged the continued backing of the traditional institution and the wider Bungudu community, signalling that the relationship between local leadership and the police command remains intact and, by his account, strengthening.

The visit fits into a broader pattern the Zamfara State Police Command has been pursuing across the state, treating traditional rulers and community stakeholders not as passive recipients of security updates but as active partners in shaping how policing is carried out locally. The Command reiterated that this approach aligns with the vision set out by the Inspector-General of Police, who has pushed for closer community-police partnerships nationwide as a route toward lasting peace, public safety and the protection of lives and property across Zamfara State and beyond.
