The United Kingdom has appointed diplomat Vicky Seymour as its new Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, reinforcing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries across trade, security, migration and development cooperation.
The appointment was announced by the British High Commission in Abuja on Thursday.
Seymour succeeds Gill Lever OBE, whose diplomatic posting in Nigeria ended in June 2026.
Before her new appointment, Seymour served as Head of the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). She previously led the FCDO’s Trade Diplomacy Department and also served as Development Director in Mozambique.
With more than two decades of experience in diplomacy and international development, she has held senior positions across several African countries, including Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Mozambique, as well as Afghanistan.
Her professional background spans climate policy, security, economic development and migration-related issues.
Speaking on her appointment, Seymour expressed optimism about expanding cooperation between the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
She described Nigeria as an extraordinary country and said she looked forward to engaging with people across its diverse communities while building on the strong partnership that already exists between both nations.
The British High Commission noted that Seymour will play a key role in advancing UK-Nigeria relations in areas such as economic growth, international collaboration, migration, security and development while promoting stronger people-to-people connections.
The appointment comes as both countries continue to deepen cooperation on trade, investment, education, security and development initiatives.
