A coalition of Muslim leaders operating under the Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and League of Alfas has publicly challenged Governor Ademola Adeleke’s claim that his administration has done more for Osun’s Muslim community than any government before it, while formally endorsing APC governorship candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji ahead of the August 15 election.
Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo titled “State of the Nation: A Call to the Conscience of Muslims in Osun State,” coalition president Sheikh Qozeem AbdulRahaman framed the upcoming election as a moment for voters to weigh candidates on genuine governance record rather than political messaging. He was direct in rejecting the Adeleke administration’s own assessment of its work for the Muslim community, pointing specifically to projects the government has cited as achievements, including the Government House Mosque and the Osun Hajj Camp, which he said do not reflect the level of completion the administration has claimed. AbdulRahaman encouraged members of the public to verify the actual status of those projects independently rather than accepting official accounts at face value.
Beyond project completion, the coalition’s secretary, Abdulganiy Sahid, raised a separate concern around representation, noting that some members of the Muslim community have voiced frustration over their presence in political appointments and leadership roles within the state government. Sahid was careful to frame these as perceptions circulating within the community rather than confirmed findings, while still calling for more equitable representation in public office going forward.
Despite the pointed criticism, the coalition was emphatic that its position isn’t rooted in religious division. AbdulRahaman stressed that the group remains committed to peaceful coexistence among Osun’s different faith communities and is seeking equal opportunity for all residents regardless of religious background, not preferential treatment for Muslims specifically.
In endorsing Oyebamiji, the coalition urged voters to judge him on substantive grounds, his character, competence, experience, and leadership ability, rather than reducing the decision to religious affiliation alone. The group closed by calling on Muslims across Osun State to take part in the governorship election peacefully and to vote according to their own conscience.
