The Matawalle Political Movement used this year’s Eid-el-Maulud celebration to extend more than a routine holiday greeting, tying the occasion directly to prayers for Nigeria’s upcoming election season. In a statement issued Tuesday by Publicity Secretary Malam Yusuf Idris Gusau, on behalf of Minister of State for Defence Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, the group congratulated Muslims across Zamfara State and Nigeria while urging them to draw specifically on the timing of this year’s 1448 Maulud, which falls as election preparations are already underway.
That timing, the group argued, gives the occasion added weight this year. “You will realise therefore that at this critical time, we and our great nation need prayers the most for Allah to continue to guide us through the election season where no one will be under any threat,” the statement said, framing prayer sessions tied to the Maulud as a fitting moment to seek both national stability and a peaceful electoral process specifically.
Beyond the election-focused appeal, the movement encouraged Muslims to use the occasion more broadly to reflect on the Prophet Muhammad’s teachings, which it described as touching on nearly every aspect of daily life and remaining relevant well beyond religious observance alone. It pointed specifically to values of peace, unity, love, and peaceful coexistence as lessons worth revisiting during this year’s celebration.
The group also called on Muslims to direct prayers toward restoring peace and stability in Zamfara State specifically, alongside the country more broadly. “Let’s use the Maulud preachings and prayer sessions to supplicate Allah for the return of peace in our dear state and Nigeria at large,” the statement said, treating security concerns in Zamfara as inseparable from the national conversation around stability heading into the election period.
Closing its message, the movement reiterated its call for Muslims to embody the Prophet’s teachings in daily conduct while continuing to seek divine guidance for the country, and expressed hope that this year’s Maulud celebration would bring both blessings and lasting peace to Muslims and Nigerians more broadly.
