Tinubu Hails By-Election Winners as APC Takes Four of Five Contested Seats

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated candidates who emerged victorious in the weekend’s by-elections across Gombe, Kano, Bauchi and Delta states, after All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates won four of the five contested seats.

The president’s congratulatory message followed the conclusion of the elections, which produced victories for four APC candidates and one candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

The APC candidates declared winners were Kallamu MaiJama’a, who won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye constituency; Husseini Datti, who secured the Dawakin Kudu seat in Kano State; Okolosi Ator, who emerged victorious in Udu, Delta State; and Yakubu Ali, who won the Disina constituency.

The remaining seat, Sakwa in Bauchi State, was won by Adamu Yakubu of the Allied Peoples Movement.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described the results as an indication of continued grassroots support for the APC and the reforms being implemented by his administration.

The president urged the newly elected lawmakers to regard their victories as a responsibility to their constituents and to work towards justifying the confidence placed in them by voters.

He also called on the candidates who did not win to accept the outcomes in good faith and continue to contribute to the democratic process.

Tinubu commended voters across the affected constituencies for participating in the elections and praised security agencies for maintaining peace during the exercise.

The president also acknowledged the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in conducting the by-elections.

By-elections are conducted to fill legislative seats that become vacant before the expiration of a legislative term. They provide voters in affected constituencies with an opportunity to elect new representatives for the remainder of the term.

The weekend polls covered constituencies in four states and produced a mixed outcome, with the APC winning the majority of the seats while the APM secured one constituency.

The results will add to the political activity surrounding Nigeria’s legislative landscape as parties continue preparations for future elections.

The successful candidates are expected to assume their legislative responsibilities and represent the interests of their respective constituencies following the completion of the required electoral and administrative processes.
