Igboho Throws Weight Behind Pelumi Olajengbesi’s House of Representatives Bid

Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has endorsed public-interest lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi for the House of Representatives seat representing Oriade-Obokun Federal Constituency in Osun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Igboho announced his support during a meeting with Olajengbesi at his residence in Ibadan, describing the Accord Party aspirant as a capable and credible candidate who possesses the qualities needed to provide effective representation for the people of the constituency.

According to Igboho, Olajengbesi demonstrated loyalty and commitment during one of the most difficult periods of his life following his arrest and detention in the Republic of Benin in 2021. He recalled that the lawyer offered legal support without demanding payment and remained supportive throughout the legal and personal challenges that followed.

The activist said Olajengbesi also played a significant role in helping him navigate his return to public life after years in exile. He noted that the lawyer’s contributions extended beyond legal representation, including support during the burial of his mother and assistance with his reintegration into society.

Describing him as “a breath of fresh air,” Igboho expressed confidence that Olajengbesi would bring a new approach to representation if elected. He urged residents of Oriade and Obokun to consider supporting the lawyer, whom he said has consistently demonstrated a commitment to justice, public service and community development.

Olajengbesi is seeking election to the House of Representatives on the platform of the Accord Party. His bid sets the stage for what is expected to be a closely watched contest in the constituency, currently represented by veteran lawmaker Wole Oke of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The lawyer has built a reputation through public-interest litigation and advocacy on governance and constitutional issues. He recently served as spokesperson for the campaign of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during the governor’s successful re-election effort.

Speaking on his ambition, Olajengbesi reiterated his commitment to youth inclusion, grassroots development and improved representation. He pledged to champion policies aimed at expanding economic opportunities, strengthening education and improving infrastructure across communities within the constituency.

The endorsement by Igboho adds another dimension to the emerging political contest in Oriade-Obokun, where political parties are beginning to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. While endorsements do not determine electoral outcomes, political observers note that support from influential figures often helps candidates increase visibility and mobilise grassroots support.

With preparations for the election gradually gathering momentum, attention is expected to focus on the candidates’ records, campaign messages and their plans for addressing the developmental needs of constituents across the federal constituency.
