The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Olawunmi Ayodeji Badejo, has outlined an eight-point agenda aimed at strengthening academic standards, research, financial sustainability and the welfare of staff and students.
Badejo, who assumed office on September 21, 2026, unveiled the priorities in an appreciation message to the university community, setting out the areas that will guide her administration over the next five years.
The agenda covers academic excellence and quality assurance; research, innovation and global visibility; financial sustainability and resource mobilisation; and infrastructure and digital transformation.
Other priorities include staff welfare and industrial harmony, student welfare, mentorship and employability, governance and institutional integrity, and community engagement and societal impact.
According to the new Vice-Chancellor, the strategy is designed to build on the university’s existing achievements while addressing areas requiring further development.
Badejo said the success of the administration would depend on the collective efforts of members of the university community and other stakeholders.
“I do not take this confidence for granted. I am committed to serving with humility, integrity and dedication, while working with every member of the LASU community to advance our shared aspirations,” she said.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the university’s management, Senate, staff, students, alumni, partners and other stakeholders for the support and goodwill extended to her following her appointment.
She said the reception had reinforced her appreciation of the responsibility entrusted to her at what she described as an important point in the university’s history.
Badejo is the 10th substantive Vice-Chancellor of LASU and the institution’s third female Vice-Chancellor. She was appointed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on September 10 for a five-year tenure.
Her appointment followed the completion of the tenure of Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, who left office on September 19.
A professor of Guidance and Counselling, Badejo now takes charge of an institution where her administration’s stated priorities span both academic and operational issues.
The focus on research and global visibility is paired with plans for infrastructure and digital transformation, while staff and student welfare feature prominently alongside financial sustainability.
The new Vice-Chancellor said her administration would work with the university community to advance LASU’s aspirations and create opportunities for further growth and excellence.
The eight-point framework will therefore serve as the broad policy direction of Badejo’s administration as she begins her five-year tenure at the university.
