The Nigeria Basketball Federation Electoral Committee has reiterated that candidates seeking positions on the federation’s board must submit their nomination forms before the stipulated deadline of October 8, 2026.
Chairman of the committee, Dr. Lanre Glover, said the deadline remains a critical component of the electoral timetable and warned that no extensions would be granted under any circumstances.
Speaking ahead of the federation’s elective congress, Glover urged interested candidates to comply fully with the requirements, stressing that the committee was committed to conducting a transparent and credible electoral process.
The upcoming election is expected to usher in a new leadership team for Nigerian basketball, with stakeholders closely monitoring developments ahead of the polls.
According to the timetable released by the committee, nomination submissions opened on September 30 and will close at exactly 2 p.m. on October 8. The list of successful candidates is scheduled to be published on October 10, while the elective congress will take place in Abuja on October 15.
Glover emphasised that adherence to the timeline is necessary to ensure a smooth electoral process and avoid disputes that could undermine the credibility of the elections.
The Electoral Committee was constituted during an Extraordinary Congress held in Yola, Adamawa State, where delegates approved a team of professionals and sports administrators to oversee the exercise.
Members of the committee include Sr. Femi Olugbile, Alhaji Sani Fema, Engr. Priscilla Ngozi Iroaganachi, Major General David Lubo and Mallam Farouk Yarima, while Barrister Ichene Kalu serves as secretary.
The election comes at a crucial period for Nigerian basketball, with stakeholders expecting the incoming board to build on existing achievements while addressing challenges affecting the development of the sport.
Observers believe the outcome of the election will play a significant role in shaping the future of basketball administration, talent development and international competitiveness in Nigeria.
With preparations entering the final stages, the committee has assured stakeholders of a fair process that reflects the wishes of the basketball community.
