Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has criticised former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over his recent comments about President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing him of abandoning political positions he previously supported.
Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District, made the remarks during an interview on TVC on Wednesday, questioning the consistency of Amaechi’s political views.
The senator argued that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate had become a vocal critic of the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite previously supporting the party and serving in an APC-led government.
According to Oshiomhole, Amaechi’s current political stance contrasts with his earlier expressions of support for the ruling party and its leadership.
“Amaechi is contradicting his past positions. He has lost direction politically,” Oshiomhole said.
The former APC National Chairman maintained that Amaechi’s criticisms of the Tinubu administration should be examined against his political history, particularly his years as Rivers State governor and Minister of Transportation.
He questioned why the former minister had adopted positions that, in his assessment, differed significantly from those he held while associated with the ruling party.
Oshiomhole accused Amaechi of adjusting his political positions according to changing circumstances and personal interests.
He further argued that the former governor’s criticism of the Federal Government was inconsistent with his previous involvement in the administration of the country.
The senator also challenged Amaechi’s standing to question the government’s performance, suggesting that his record in public office should form part of any assessment of his political statements.
Oshiomhole described the former minister’s recent interventions as hypocritical, alleging that they were motivated more by political considerations than concern for the challenges confronting Nigerians.
However, the accusations represent Oshiomhole’s assessment of Amaechi’s political conduct rather than independently established findings about his intentions.
The exchange comes against the backdrop of political positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians from competing parties presenting differing assessments of the current administration.
Amaechi’s association with the ADC places him on the opposite side of the political contest from Oshiomhole, who remains a prominent figure in the APC.
Oshiomhole urged Nigerians to consider the former minister’s previous political positions when evaluating his criticism of President Tinubu and the Federal Government.
He maintained that Amaechi’s record should not be separated from his current public statements about governance and national affairs.
The senator consequently called on the public to disregard what he characterised as contradictory political commentary from the ADC vice-presidential candidate.
Amaechi’s response to the allegations was not included in the account of the interview.
