The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested four suspects and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, suspected illicit drugs, charms and other items during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Uyo.
The operation, which was carried out following credible intelligence, forms part of ongoing efforts by the command to tackle criminal activities across the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday, explaining that operatives stormed the hideout located at Mbiabong Ikot Essien, off Oron Road in Uyo Local Government Area, on July 26.
According to the police spokesperson, the property where the operation took place is reportedly owned by an individual identified simply as Imo, whose full identity is still being investigated.
She stated that several suspects managed to escape upon sighting the police team, but four individuals between the ages of 15 and 21 were apprehended during the raid.
A search conducted within the premises reportedly led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol and substances suspected to be cannabis sativa. Officers also recovered assorted charms, plumbing materials believed to have been stolen and packaged clothing items suspected to be proceeds of criminal activities.
The command said the recovered exhibits have been taken into custody as investigations continue.
DSP John noted that efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend other suspects who fled during the operation. She added that investigators are working to determine the ownership of the recovered items and establish possible links to cultism, theft, drug-related offences and other criminal activities.
The police spokesperson reiterated the command’s commitment to combating insecurity in Akwa Ibom State, including cultism, armed robbery, kidnapping, burglary and the trafficking or abuse of illicit substances.
She also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing credible and timely information capable of preventing crime and aiding investigations.
The latest operation reflects the Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s ongoing strategy of intelligence-led policing aimed at disrupting criminal networks and improving public safety across communities.
Authorities assured residents that all suspects found culpable after investigations would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
