The Commander of the Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, Major General Godwin Mutkut, has urged troops deployed in the North-East to intensify offensive operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters, stressing that sustained pressure remains critical to defeating insurgency.
Mutkut gave the charge during an operational assessment visit to the Headquarters of the 27 Task Force Brigade, Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI, in Yobe State.
According to a statement shared by the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Tasi’u Abbas, the visit enabled the commander to review operational activities, inspect facilities and engage directly with officers and soldiers serving in the theatre.
Addressing the troops, Mutkut commended their courage, resilience and sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity despite the difficult conditions associated with counter-insurgency operations.
He emphasised that maintaining continuous pressure on terrorist groups was essential to restricting their movement and disrupting their ability to launch attacks.
“Sustained operational pressure on the terrorists remains the key to denying them freedom of action,” he stated.
The senior military officer urged personnel to remain vigilant, disciplined and combat-ready, warning against complacency in the ongoing fight against insurgency.
He also reminded soldiers of the importance of professionalism and adherence to military ethics. According to him, actions such as social media misconduct, disclosure of operational information, drug abuse and other forms of indiscipline could undermine military operations and damage the image of the Nigerian Army.
Mutkut assured the troops that the Army leadership remained committed to their welfare, describing effective leadership and troop motivation as important factors in achieving operational success.
Earlier, the Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General Mukhtar S. Mukhtar, welcomed the Infantry Corps Commander and expressed appreciation for the visit.
He said the engagement would boost the morale of officers and soldiers while reinforcing the brigade’s commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against terrorist elements operating within its area of responsibility.
The visit included an operational briefing, inspection of equipment and facilities, interaction with troops and the presentation of souvenirs.
The Nigerian Army noted that such engagements are part of efforts to strengthen operational effectiveness and support ongoing initiatives aimed at restoring peace, stability and security across the North-East region.
