A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Adeniyi Adeyemi, who describes himself as the Director-General of the alleged Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), after he failed to appear for arraignment on charges of conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
Justice Mohammed Umar granted the prosecution’s application for the warrant on Tuesday after Adeyemi was absent when the matter was called.
The defendant was expected to take his plea on an eight-count charge filed by the Nigeria Police Force. The case centres on allegations that he operated a purported government agency which the Presidency has said does not exist.
During proceedings, Adeyemi’s lawyer informed the court that his client feared for his safety and had written to President Bola Tinubu regarding the matter.
Responding, the judge stated that the court would ensure his safety and subsequently ordered his arrest. The case was adjourned until September 30, 2026, for arraignment.
According to the charge sheet, Adeyemi and two other suspects currently at large are accused of forging several official documents, including an alleged presidential appointment letter and other government correspondence.
The police also alleged that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC and operated from an office within the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja.
The offences carry severe penalties, including lengthy prison terms if proven in court.
Adeyemi had earlier denied reports that he was evading security agencies, insisting during a television interview that he remained willing to appear publicly despite concerns about his personal safety.
