Dangote Cement Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable cement production, urging African manufacturers to accelerate efforts toward reducing carbon emissions while meeting the continent’s growing infrastructure needs.
The company’s Group Managing Director, Arvind Pathak, made the call after participating in the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) CEO Strategic Dialogue held in Madrid, Spain.
The summit brought together industry leaders to discuss strategies for achieving net-zero emissions through low-carbon construction, climate policy reforms, financing and innovative technologies.
Pathak said Africa is uniquely positioned to pursue industrial growth while advancing climate goals, noting that the continent must balance increasing infrastructure demand with environmental sustainability.
He stressed the need for greater adoption of alternative fuels, reduced clinker content in cement production and investment in technologies suited to local conditions.
According to him, the cement industry’s collective commitment to decarbonisation is essential for ensuring sustainable growth without slowing economic development.
The GCCA dialogue also examined financing options and policy frameworks required to support the transition to a low-carbon cement and concrete sector globally.
