The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery across Nigeria through sustained investment, innovation and improved medical infrastructure.
Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom, stated this during the inauguration of several projects at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Edo State to commemorate the first anniversary of Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu as Chief Medical Director.
Represented by the Medical Director of the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Benin, Dr. Philip Ugbodaga, Kachollom said the Federal Government remains focused on transforming healthcare services under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
She commended the UBTH management for implementing projects aimed at improving healthcare access and patient experience, describing Ize-Iyamu’s leadership as visionary and impactful.
Among the facilities commissioned were a 65-bed Accident and Emergency Complex, upgraded dialysis units, a revitalised oxygen plant, oncology and dental centres, a geriatric ward, a Special Investigation Unit and an expanded mortuary facility.
Kachollom said the developments reflected the hospital’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare services while enhancing infrastructure and clinical care.
Speaking at the event, Ize-Iyamu said the projects were designed to provide safe, dignified and world-class healthcare services for patients.
She also announced plans to extend free medical services, including cataract surgeries and other treatments, to about 5,000 residents in underserved communities through the hospital’s comprehensive health centre at Udo.
