A collision involving four vehicles has caused serious traffic congestion along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos, with an unconfirmed number of casualties reportedly taken to hospital.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, disclosed the incident in a statement published on Tuesday, identifying the location as Cele Express, inward Mile 2.
The vehicles involved were a Hilux van, a container-laden truck, a patrol van and a Toyota car.
LASTMA attributed the crash to a suspected mechanical fault, particularly possible brake failure. However, the cause had not been independently established at the time of the report.
The agency said the collision resulted in an unconfirmed number of casualties, who were taken to hospital for medical attention.
Following the incident, LASTMA officers were deployed to strategic points along the expressway to manage traffic movement and redirect motorists through alternative routes.
The agency said the deployment was intended to reduce congestion and prevent further accidents as emergency response activities continued.
It also advised motorists to exercise caution while using the road, particularly around the affected section, where traffic movement had been seriously disrupted.
The latest crash occurred days after another fatal accident involving a truck and a commercial bus on Alaro City Bridge, inward T-Junction, Epe.
That incident, which occurred on October 28, claimed four lives and left 13 other people critically injured, according to LASTMA.
The agency had reported that the truck driver also sustained severe injuries after both legs became trapped in the wreckage.
The repeated reports of serious road crashes have renewed attention on vehicle safety and the risks associated with mechanical faults on Lagos roads.
LASTMA urged motorists to ensure their vehicles were in good working condition and to observe traffic regulations to reduce the risk of further incidents.
