The French government has commenced disciplinary proceedings against its ambassador to the Central African Republic, Bruno Foucher, following allegations relating to his conduct at the French embassy in Bangui.
The development follows an administrative investigation into claims that the diplomat repeatedly allowed women access to his official residence over a two-year period, raising concerns about compliance with diplomatic security protocols.
According to reports by French investigative publication Le Canard Enchaîné, the ambassador allegedly hosted dozens of female visitors between January 2024 and March 2026, with some reportedly staying overnight at the diplomatic residence.
France’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that an inquiry was conducted in Bangui and that disciplinary proceedings were initiated after the findings were reviewed.
The controversy has generated concern over potential security implications associated with unrestricted access to official diplomatic premises.
Foucher, a veteran diplomat, remains in office while the disciplinary process continues. Depending on the outcome, sanctions could range from a formal reprimand to removal from diplomatic service.
