He Introduced Me to Politics’ – Tinubu Pays Tribute to Kola Oseni

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid tribute to elder statesman and progressive politician Alhaji Ganiyu Kolapo Oseni, describing him as a close ally who played a crucial role in shaping his political career.

In a personal statement released on Friday following Oseni’s death, the President expressed sadness over the passing of the veteran politician, whom he described as a democrat, visionary administrator and trusted friend.

Tinubu recalled Oseni’s role as Organising Secretary of the Unity Party of Nigeria in Lagos State during the Second Republic and praised his contributions to public service and political development.

The President disclosed that Oseni was among those who encouraged and supported his entry into politics, helping him become a senator representing Lagos West and later governor of Lagos State.

He also highlighted their shared involvement in the struggle to actualise the June 12, 1993 presidential election won by Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola and the broader campaign against military rule.

Tinubu described the late politician as a steadfast advocate of democracy and good governance whose legacy would continue to inspire future generations.

The President further revealed that Oseni had blessed his presidential ambition before relocating to the United States and noted that some of the reforms currently being implemented by his administration were ideas they had discussed together over the years.

He extended condolences to Oseni’s family and prayed for the repose of his soul.
