Hydrogen Partners Lagos Government to Equip Teachers, Students With AI Skills

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape education and the workplace, Hydrogen Payment Services Company Limited has taken steps to improve digital literacy among secondary school teachers and students in Lagos State.

The financial technology company recently concluded the maiden edition of its AI4Learning Initiative, organised in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and Education District III.

The programme was designed to introduce participants in government-owned secondary schools to the practical applications of artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on improving classroom instruction, independent learning and everyday problem-solving.

Rather than focusing solely on the technical aspects of AI, the initiative sought to demonstrate how emerging digital tools could support existing educational practices while encouraging responsible usage.

Activities were divided into two specialised sessions to address the different learning needs of teachers and students.

The Teachers Learning Programme took place at Victoria Island Senior Secondary School, while Kuramo Senior College hosted the Students Learning Programme.

Both schools are situated along Bishop Aboyade Cole Street on Victoria Island, Lagos.

During the sessions, participants explored ways artificial intelligence could simplify academic tasks, improve access to information and make teaching and learning more engaging.

The training also highlighted the potential of AI-powered tools to support lesson preparation, research and knowledge retention, while reinforcing the importance of independent thinking.

A central message of the initiative was that artificial intelligence should complement human intelligence rather than replace personal judgment or responsibility.

Participants were encouraged to examine AI-generated information critically, verify responses before relying on them and remain conscious of the risks associated with sharing sensitive personal data.

The organisers also stressed that users must retain responsibility for decisions and academic work completed with the assistance of AI tools.

Speaking on the initiative, the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Hydrogen Payment Services Company Limited, Fiyinfoluwa Olorunsola, said the programme reflected the organisation’s commitment to helping people develop the confidence required to use emerging technologies effectively.

“AI4Learning reflects our belief that technology creates greater impact when people have the knowledge and confidence to use it well,” Olorunsola said.

He explained that the initiative was intended to encourage teachers and students to explore AI’s possibilities while remaining aware of its limitations.

According to him, developing sound judgment alongside technical knowledge is essential to ensuring that artificial intelligence delivers meaningful educational benefits.

The partnership highlights growing efforts to introduce practical digital skills into secondary education as technological developments create new opportunities and challenges for educators.

By combining hands-on exposure with lessons on responsible technology use, the AI4Learning Initiative aims to help participating teachers and students become more confident and discerning users of artificial intelligence.

The completed programme marks the first edition of Hydrogen’s educational intervention in partnership with the Lagos State education authorities.
